Divide And Conquer FH2007-K

Ah the sin of hubris. The New York Times is as giddy as a school girl walking into the prom. The Democrats have taken over Congress and a white flag is waving proudly over the capitol. The Times has thrown caution to the wind and printed an article in the OP-ED section on Saturday, February 10, 2007 that advocates the dissolution of the United States into smaller more manageable sections. This would bring the whole planet closer to world government which the Times has always advocated albeit more subtly in the past. That way we could all get to live in a healthy happy third world environment.
The gang on West 43rd Street has always wished in it’s heart of hearts to give places like Syria, Iran and Venezuela more input into what happens in places like Kansas and Oregon. Pinch Sulzberger and his crew of left wing zealots still hum the socialist melody as they march into the office each morning. Even though the Soviets ran their economy into implosion and the commissars in Peking have abandoned Communism the lefties at The Times are still true believers. They yearn to dance around the maypole and call each other comrade.
What to do? Turn to academia and let the best and the brightest lead the way. There across the fruited plain lie the hallowed halls of America’s universities. With the exception of Cuba and North Korea these are the only places in the known universe where red banners still wave. There one might find Gar Alperovitz with the spawn of America’s plutocrats sitting at his knee drinking from his fountain of wisdom and parting with forty five thousand a year for the privilege. Our boy Gar wrote the article published in the Times which probably caused Abraham Lincoln and U.S. Grant to spin in their graves.” Our federal union it must be preserved”, obviously is an outdated term in Times Speak .
In the world according to Gar “a profound, probably regional, decentralization of the federal system may be all but inevitable“. He goes on to say that, ”the United States is almost certainly too big to be a meaningful democracy”. Ah master we the humble and unwashed get your meaning. Go small like say Iraq under Saddam or North Korea under the short guy with the weird hairdo and the big shoes. Getting small is a big idea. Gar is on a roll, he continues stating that James Madison sat up late worrying that if the country got too large, the Elites at the center would divide and conquer a widely dispersed population, producing tyranny. In that Madison was correct as we are already living under the tyranny of a media that can make or break presidents and congressional leaders. Just ask George Bush and Newt Gingrich. They can also spare murderers and ex members of the Ku Klux Klan just ask Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd. If that isn’t Tyranny I have a bridge with a view of Wall Street to sell you.
All this splicing and dicing of America might be fine for Pinch and Gar as well as The Acme Flag Company but what about the rest of us that do not want to see 50 new countries from sea to shining sea. It might be a bit troublesome to get those fifty different governments to figure out how to protect us from a nuclear armed Iran and North Korea not to mention a billion plus Moslems and an equal amount of Chinese that want to impose their lifestyles on us. When Gar arises from his lectern and shakes off the sons and daughters of the elites from his knees like a hound losing fleas, does he consider for a moment the tactical problems that would arise if say Delaware and Montana were nuked. Who would retaliate? Just how big is Delaware’s navy anyway? Would Vermont join in the fight or would they opt to give peace a chance. In addition looking south would New Jersey have any responsibility along the Mexican border or would it’s citizens leave it all up to the great nation of Arizona.
If a new type of Black Plague broke out in Denver courtesy of Al Queda would the city still be part of Colorado or would it have joined Gar’s ideology and seceded forming its own nation. Would citizens of Denver’s suburbs turn to the nation of Denver or the nation of Colorado for aid fighting the chaos. While we are at it lets give in to Brooklyn’s long cherished wish and let it separate from New York City and face Venezuela on its own.
And God help the Kindergarten kids in Minnesota and Vermont because in those countries the law would favor rehabilitation over punishment ,if someone exercised his legal right to date the tyke of his choice.
We are living on the rim of a societal black hole. Two thousand years of science, art, literature and music are under threat from forces that want to turn the clock back a thousand years. It is not enough to be the “Un Bush”. George W alas has failed .We may have to turn from our Democratic friends and their little socialist newspaper and find a new party that understands what is at stake and has some actual plans to deal with the threats that are looming.
